Yamunotri Temple – The Sacred Seat of Goddess Yamuna

Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, is one of the four sacred shrines of the Chardham Yatra. Situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas, the temple marks the origin of the holy River Yamuna, which is worshipped as a divine mother. Pilgrims undertake a spiritual journey through scenic mountain trails to seek blessings for purity, longevity, and well-being.

According to mythology, Asit Muni, a revered sage, meditated here, and the river is believed to be the spiritual sister of Yama (the God of Death). It is said that taking a dip in the holy waters of Yamuna frees devotees from the fear of untimely death.
